Hackathon

Key dates for the Hackathon:

• December 5th, 2016 at 12:30 PM – kickoff lunch at Roam Dunwoody
• February 20th, 2017 – presentations and judging of solutions

Rules

• Attend the kickoff on 12/5.
• Download the APD Crime Data from this site.
• Choose from one of the three data visualization tools that are part of the Hackathon (pick a tool you don’t already know).
• Download the tool and spend as much time as needed running through tutorials and training.
• Build out a solution on the Atlanta crime data that would help a citizen in the city of Atlanta better understand how, where, when and why crime is happening in their neighborhood.  The focus should be on telling a compelling story using clear and descriptive data visualization.  Since lat/long data is included, mapping would be great to add to the visualizations but is certainly not required.  Your creativity is the key!
• Additional data that is in the public realm can be downloaded and included if desired.  However this is not required.  Examples might be census data, other neighborhood data, etc.  All data must be from a public source.
• We will have presentations on February 20th – Each participant will walk through their solution for our expert panel of judges.  Focus on telling a story through the data.  Then explain how you put it together and any additional data you brought in for the app.
